Canberra Coaching Weekend

Last weekend Chris and I flew down to Canberra for an opportunity to coach with Matt Szabo of Bike Techniques Australia. They had organized for us to come down as guest coaches and teach a couple groups based on our experience racing and riding all over the world.

It’s getting chilly down in Canberra as the southern hemisphere enters autumn but the sun was out Saturday morning as we met our groups at Mt. Majura Nature Reserve. We taught some DH skills in the morning to a group of groms and up and coming riders. The forest trails were fun and flowy and conditions were perfect. Quote of the day came from one of our young riders, Rong: “I don’t eat snacks.” Haha,  I love the characters we meet on our coaching adventures, cracks me up! Chris continued with the DH boys during the afternoon session and I got to teach some All Mountain skills to an adult group. Loved exploring the amazing trails!

Matt and Nijole had a big BBQ for us on Saturday night and there were a few folks that came around that were eager to meet and hang out with us. So we let the good times roll before finishing off the weekend with another sunny day at Mt. Majura. I think it was young Ryan that won quote of the day with “Death is over-rated. ” haha. We worked on some drifts, tricky lines and jumps in the morning and I taught some AM skills again in the afternoon. I love blowing people’s minds jumping a 2 foot gap on my all mountain bike! Haha, they are so cute.

Overall it was a great weekend and we got to meet some inspiring people and hear some inspiring stories. Thanks for coming out and thanks for your support Canberra! Thanks Matt,  Nijole and little Noah for your amazing hospitality and we look forward to teaming up and visiting with you again.

the boys keeping up with Chris.
